Dr. Michelle Channing is a licensed clinical psychologist in Weston, Florida, adjunct professor at Florida International University, and business founder and owner of InPsych Consultants, P.A. and Dr. Michelle Channing, P.A. She serves on the Advisory Board of the Florida Initiative for Suicide Prevention (FISP). In addition, she was the Secretary and Board Member of The Southeast Florida Association for Psychoanalytic Psychology (SEFAPP) for four years.
Dr. Channing has a broad base of treatment experiences. She has worked with adults and children in private practice, at community mental health centers and in forensic settings. Her experience has also included working in numerous university settings in the capacity of a therapist, victim’s advocate, and professor. In addition to her current private practice in Weston, Florida, Dr. Channing maintains a teaching position at Florida International University, teaching undergraduate and graduate level courses.
Her special interests include conducting individual psychotherapy with adults who suffer with depression, and anxiety (including but not limited to panic disorder, social anxiety, generalized anxiety disorder, and obsessive-compulsive disorder). She helps individuals who have adjustment and phase-of-life challenges, bereavement issues, and interpersonal struggles. She also conducts personality, diagnostic, ADHD and psychoeducational testings. Dr. Channing uses her many years of cumulative knowledge to mentor other mental health providers in nurturing their professional growth and development in the area of practice management as well as with clinical challenges.
Dr. Channing continues to take pride in her public speaking engagements to educate the community and her colleagues. She was the keynote speaker at the National Annual Survivors’ Day hosted by the Florida Initiative for Suicide Prevention (FISP), in November 2006, and yearly from 2009 to 2016. The FISP conferences were directed by Jackie Rosen and former mayor of Weston and Miramar, Harry Rosen. Dr. Channing presented at a workshop (October 2009) sponsored by The Southeast Florida Association for Psychoanalytic Psychology (SEFAPP), where she initiated the idea that sparked the development and design of “The Conflict of Money in Psychotherapy and Practice Building Methods in Today’s Economy” conference. Dr. Channing also speaks regularly at Cleveland Clinic in the Cardiac Rehabilitation department.
She obtained her doctorate and master’s degree in clinical psychology from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. She received her certificate in psychoanalytic psychotherapy from the Postdoctoral Institute of Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy of Nova Southeastern University. Prior to her doctoral studies, she earned her master’s in mental health counseling from Nova Southeastern University and her bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of South Florida in Tampa, Florida.
